The Ultimate Country Music Workout Playlist

You might not initially think of country music as the ideal workout soundtrack. And while it’s true that there are some slower, sadder tunes of the "lost my truck, lost my love, lost my dog" variety, the genre has plenty of up-tempo, high-energy, downright rockin’ medleys to put some calorie-burning pep in your step.
 
You don’t have to visit a Nashville honky-tonk or learn a complicated line dance to get your boot-scootin' boogie on—simply create your own country music playlist, plug in your earbuds and then run, walk, spin or shuffle along to the Americana-inspired tunes. Heck, you can even do the two-step through your living room, as long as you’re moving. (Boots and hat are optional.)

I grew up in the South, and for years I thought I didn’t like country music (whining, yodeling, etc - no thanks!). About 10 years ago, I realized a lot of the music I was enjoying was branded as Country. What! When did it get so good? Now it’s my mainstay.

I grew up in the South, avoiding C&W music. Of course, this was when a LOT of the singers were twangy, yodelish, or something else I didn’t like. As the lines blurred with crossovers, I slowly realized I actually enjoyed C&W! Carrie Underwood, Shania, Like Bryan, GEORGE STRAIT!, Zac Brown, & so many more. I essentially dropped the classic rock, 60’s thru 90’s pop - & switched to country line ups. Still refuse to listen to rap or hip hop. Report

I didn't grow up really liking a lot of country mostly because I could never understand the DJ's to understand the names of the songs and musicians. The beat - some are more danceable than others, so I liked those country songs better - and eventually I realized I tended to like acoustic country or bluegrass more than most of the "modern" country. Nevertheless, I've been making an effort to become more familiar with country, with the additional accessibility that the Internet brings (YouTube, captioned videos, lyric websites, etc.).

So, as usual, I have created a Spotify playlist with the 40 songs in this play list and one I just added - "Airport Kiss" by Jon Wolfe...

You will need to create a free Spotify account to listen (you don't have to have a Premium account.). Some I know just create "throwaway" email accounts to give to Spotify, but the ones that do already have an account, they can listen to this on their mobile or website (laptop) browser etc.

i disagree about taylor swift, listen to her duet with tim mcgraw, highway dont care...to me that is what taylor swift was meant to do...and she also wrote, wish you were a better man. the ultimate country song. if she stayed with country and left the bubble gum pop alone i would listen to her more.
